Events in Belgium dedicated to the Armenian Genocide Centennial

On April 24, Holy Mass dedicated to the Armenian Genocide Centennial was served at the Church of Saint Mary Magdalene in Brussels by Vicar of the Western European Patriarchal Delegate for Benelux, Reverend Father Zatik Avetikyan. The Mass was attended by the Ambassador of Armenia to Belgium Tatoul Markarian, representatives of Armenia’s diplomatic missions to Brussels, leaders of community organizations, members of Armenian community of Belgium.

Mass was followed by the participants’ procession to the cross-stone memorial dedicated to the memory of victims of the Armenian Genocide at the Henri Michaux Square. Memorial event took place in the presence of the President of Belgian Senate Christine Defraigne, members of Belgian Government and Parliament, leaders of municipal and regional authorities, members of European Parliament, heads and representatives of diplomatic missions in Brussels.

In her speech Ms. Defraigne mentioned that on the same day members of Belgian Parliament in the extended session of Senate and Chamber of Representatives of Belgium observed a minute of silence in remembrance of the victims of Armenian Genocide.

Addressing the event and commemorating the victims of Armenian Genocide, Ambassador Markarian stressed that “the developments of recent weeks demonstrated that denialist policy of Turkey does not have not only future, but even present.”
