Armenia - Belgium business forum took place in Brussels

On June 11, business forum entitled “Cooperation Opportunities between Armenia and Belgium” took place in Brussels which was organized by the Ministry of Economy of Armenia and the Embassy of Armenia to Belgium together with Development Fund of Armenia (DFA), and Belgium - Armenia Trade Chamber in cooperation with Wallonia Export and Investment Agency (AWEX), Flanders Investment and Trade Agency, and Chamber of Commerce and Industry Brussels (BECI).

The event was attended by the delegation headed by Minister of Economy of Armenia Karen Chshmaritian. The forum was attended by the representatives of around thirty leading Belgian companies.

In his opening remarks Armenia’s Ambassador to Belgium Tatoul Markarian noted that Armenian-Belgian friendly relations, high-level dialogue and active contacts set the favorable conditions for the establishment and development of business ties in all sectors of economy. Ambassador Markarian also mentioned that Belgium has traditionally been an important trade partner for Armenia, and Armenia is interested to expand its presence in Belgian market, as well as to attract Belgian investments.

In his address to participants of the forum Minister of Economy of Armenia Karen Chshmaritian presented conceptual approaches and main directions of Armenia’s economic development underlying the advantages that economy of Armenia has as a result of its membership to Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), as well as harmonious development of economic cooperation with EU and other regions. The minister stressed that such multilateral engagements create serious advantages for business activities in Armenia.

Executive Director of the DFA Arman Khachatryan and Director of Enterprise Incubator Foundation Bagrat Yengibaryan presented the investment climate in Armenia and a number of concrete cooperation proposals.

The presentations were followed by dynamic question and answer sessions with the participation of attending businessmen. With several Belgian companies their projects were discussed, and arrangements made for their study tours in Armenia in the nearest future.
