Ambassador Tigran Balayan's Visit to Namur

04 August, 2026

On July 20, Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Belgium Tigran Balayan paid a visit to Namur, the capital of the Walloon Region.

Ambassador Balayan first met with the President of the Parliament of Wallonia, Willy Borsus.

The meeting focused on prospects for deepening bilateral cooperation with Wallonia, strengthening interparliamentary partnership, as well as the agenda of upcoming joint initiatives.

Ambassador Balayan raised the issue of increasing the presence of Armenian-made products in Wallonia, noting that, in line with the Armenian Government's policy of export diversification, this step could provide a significant impetus to the further development of bilateral trade and economic relations.

The interlocutors also discussed the latest regional developments, emphasizing the importance of the regional connectivity agenda. In this context, Ambassador Balayan presented the Armenian Government's "Crossroads of Peace" initiative, stressing that its full implementation would transform the region into an important hub of stability, security, and economic cooperation by ensuring the unblocking of transport links and enhancing regional connectivity.

The President of the Parliament of Wallonia expressed his readiness to support Armenia's initiatives within the scope of his mandate.

During the visit, the Ambassador of Armenia also met with the Mayor of Namur, Charlotte Bazelaire, to discuss opportunities for cooperation in the fields of education, culture, and trade.

The discussion also touched upon practical steps aimed at promoting the presence of Armenian products in Namur's retail sector.

The sides underscored the importance of exchanging experience in the field of urban economic governance, as well as implementing joint educational and cultural projects, which will serve as a solid foundation for further strengthening cooperation.
