Armenia’s National Day was Celebrated in Luxembourg

A reception dedicated to the Independence Day of the Republic of Armenia was held in Luxembourg on September 29.

The event was attended by the leadership of the Luxembourg Foreign Ministry, officials from various state agencies, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of cultural and public organizations and the Armenian community.

In his welcoming speech, Ambassador Tigran Balayan emphasized that relations between Armenia and Luxembourg have intensified unprecedentedly in recent years, enriched with new content and mutual visits, deepened political dialogue, mutual trust and sectoral cooperation. Ambassador Balayan thanked the Luxembourg Chamber of Deputies and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for their important role in strengthening relations with Armenia.

In his speech, Ambassador also touched upon regional developments, emphasizing the importance of the Washington Agreements for establishing sustainable peace. At the same time, he stressed the urgency of addressing the existing humanitarian issues, first of all the release of Armenian hostages, to make the peace process complete.

Ambassador Balayan noted that the upcoming accession of the new Grand Duke marks a new era for Luxembourg, and expressed confidence that it will lead to an increase in the country's prosperity and the further strengthening of relations with Armenia.

C'est un grand plaisir de vous accueillir pour la deuxième année consécutive à l'occasion de la Fête Nationale de la République d'Arménie, ici au Luxembourg.

And this is the best manifestation of an unprecedented intensification of relations between Armenia and Luxembourg, we are witnessing over recent years. Our political dialogue has grown deeper, accompanied by mutual high-level visits that have brought new substance and more trust to our partnership. This positive dynamic is also reinforced by the genuine solidarity that Luxembourg has always shown towards Armenia and its concerns — an empathy expressed not only through political statements, but also through a spirit of friendship and cooperation - which has always been cherished in Armenia.

À cet égard, je voudrais remercier particulièrement la Chambre des députés du Luxembourg et ses dirigeants pour avoir été le moteur du rapprochement entre nos pays, fondé sur nos valeurs communes - démocratie, dignité humaine, ordre juridique international et justice. Bien sur notre appréciation va également aux collegues du MAEE luxembourgeois pour leur détermination et soutien continue.

Looking ahead, we are eagerly anticipating the first visit of Mr. Lux Frieden, the Prime Minister of Luxembourg, to Armenia next year, in the framework of the European Political Community summit. We are confident that this important occasion will also serve as a good occasion to further boost our bilateral relations, leveling them up to strategic partnership.

Au-delà du dialogue politique, nous développons la coopération dans de nombreux domaines, de la défense et de la cybersécurité à la culture et à la coopération décentralisée. Ensemble, nous avançons également de nouveaux projets dans les domaines de la protection civile, de la gestion des situations d'urgence, de l'informatique et de la santé.

And as a true reflection of the spirit and nature of our relationship, we believe that a resident diplomatic presence of Luxembourg in Armenia would be of great significance bringing our cooperation even closer. We are keen to see the reciprocal resident diplomatic presence of Luxembourg in Armenia soon.

Dear friends,

The Washington agreements, signed in August following successful US mediation, are the cornerstone for establishment of lasting peace in our region and building a democratic and resilient state.

There are still painful realities that must be addressed on the difficult path to reconciliation and closing the confrontational page. The overdue liberation of 23 Armenian hostages in Azerbaijan is an urgent issue that requires immediate attention and action. We look forward to more active engagement of the EU and its member states in the soonest repatriation of all Armenian citizens currently being held illegally in Baku.

The unprecedented progress in the Armenia-European Union partnership is shaping the future of my country, with new initiatives and deliverables.

Our expanding cooperation with Europe makes Armenia more resilient, more self-sufficient, and less dependent - and that is exactly where true independence lies.

All these steps form the solid foundation for raising our relations between the EU and Luxembourg to a new level of strategic partnership.

Dans quelques jours, Luxembourg va célébrer le début du règne du nouveau Grand-Duc, une nouvelle ère pour ce beau pays et un moment pour réfléchir aux 25 dernières années du règne de Grand-Duc Henri, à qui j'ai eu l’honneur et privilège de présenter mes lettres de créance il y a presque cinq ans. Je suis convaincu que le nouveau règne apportera davantage de prospérité au Luxembourg et un partenariat encore plus étroit avec l'Arménie.

Mes collègues et moi-même ne ménagerons aucun effort à cet effet. C'est pourquoi je vous demande de lever vos verres à l'Arménie, au Luxembourg et à l'amitié éternelle entre nos pays et nos peuples.
